I'm considering mounting an on-board satellite TV dish, and I have discovered that there is a significant differance in price between marine and RV systems. I'm curious if anyone has any experience using an RV system in a marine environment.

You might want to ask this on "Ask the captain" You'll get a lot more responses as it really is not a Carver issue.

Double check that what you are looking at is not the difference between the in motion and the stationary dish. I have been looking as well and planning to install next year. They have come down in price and I would love to pick up an in motion unit.
Well it was my plan until my radar just went out $$$ The Satellite will have to wait.

Any standard sat dish will work. setting up every time you move from location to location takes 30 sec. If you have satillite at home get another receiver for $5.00 and use on your boat.

Any standard Sat Dish will work, as long as the Dish is not mounted on the boat...

You'll also have to take into consideration which satellite TV provider you want to use. HD with DirecTV is now available for some in-motion units, but I think they're pretty expensive. I have a Dish Network account and keep one receiver at our ski place and one on the boat (we have cable at the house). I think my programming (all HD plus a few premium channels) is around $40/month total for boat locations. I went with an AzTrax unit about 5 years ago for $1,200 and have been very happy with it. It works great in the slip or at anchor.

There's also Track-IT TV for under $900, but I hate the look of the PVC housing and having to supply your own ugly dish:
