Looked at a 99 Searay 260 sundancer with a 5.0mpi and b2 outdrive. The boat was in great shape but the engine size worries me. Underpowered maybe? Any comments about what performance to expect would be appreciated.

We had an 03, with a 6.2 B3, and she would struggle to get on plane with 5 adults, full tanks and gear, had to ask everyone to move forward with full tabs... I would think you would not be happy with 5/B2 unless it is just you and another with light load. Remember resale too... word gets out, and it's hard to sell...had a Rinker 250 we purchased underpowered and took a bath on it. In my experience, Hp is nothing and Torque is everything, at 26 you're just crossig that big block line IMO.

Good luck, there are plenty of great boats in that size/range, I'd hold out for one that fits the bill, even if you can steal it, and do not just limit yourself to SR.

good luck, always exciting looking for the next boat....

I use to have the similiar sized Regal 2660 and it had twin 4.3 V-6's in it. I think the smallest I would go is one big block 454 with a B3 on it.

I have a 98 Sundancer 250 with the 5.7 EFI and Bravo III. It is fine for what I need, tops out about 37 MPH, and runs well. A 5.0 I think would have to run close to WOT to keep on plane that heavy a boat.

I had an 2006 260 with the 6.2 and was very glad it had the upgraded engine. With a heavy boat (generator, windlass, A/C, etc.) IMO it would not have performed to my satisfaction with a lesser engine size.

Hope this helps you.

I had a 2000 with a 7.4 MPI - I would hold out for a big block. Mine was immaculate when I got rid of it in January.
