Hi guys, do any of you know anything about a 90 HP Sea Rayder. A friend is looking at a '94 model, but has never bought a boat before.

The local fire department is selling it for around $1500, including the trailer. Any pros and cons we should be aware of?

Is it a 2-stroke, 4-stroke?

Thanks in advance.

Is Sea Rayder the name of the engine or is it the name of the boat that has a 90 hp engine on it?
As far as it being 2 0r 4 stroke, I would guess that it is 2 stroke since it is a '94. 4 strokes were around then but not a lot of them.

I see a couple of Sea Raiders on Boattraderonline. Is that the name of the boat?
One has an outboard and the other is an I/O.

I googled Sea Rayder as someone else suggested and all I saw were jet boats and I doubt what you are looking at is a jet boat.

Yes, Sea Rayder is the name of the boat. Yeah, it's a jet boat. I'm just helping a friend interested a first-boat purchase. I know nothing about jet boats in general and nothing about Sea Rayder in particular.

The vast majority of jet boats, jet skis, etc. have 2 stroke engines. I'm willing to bet $10 it is 2 stroke.

It is a 2-stroke, but you don't need to premix. A '94 will offer a little bit of a challenge to a beginner because the boat steers only by thrust from the jet. The slower you go the less the steering responds. Makes docking a bit of a challenge compared to an i/o. I understand newer models have improved on this approach.

Good info, Tom. I'll make the sure the buyer is aware of that before he sea trials it this evening.

SeaRayder was made by SeaRay and was sold for a few years. The early boats, like this one was underpowered. Later models had a larger engine.

If it's powered by the Mercury 90hp jet, I learned the hard way last year on my Bayliner Jet that much of the electronics on this motor are no longer available from Mercury and that it was necessary to upgrade the whole system to make a repair to the tune of close $2k.

Unless the electronics have been replaced, I'd look for one with the 115hp motor
