5 year old water maker, Sea Rcovery Aquamatic 900...

In 5 years we had to replace 2 control boards for the touch screen, one under warranty, one for about $1000

Screen has developed horizontal lines over the years to a point where it is un readable.

Turns out Sea Recovery no longer stocks these screen so we need to upgrade the control board, add a bypass valve and install a new version of the remote screen... Altogether almost $4000

Contacted Sea Recovery directly and got the same story... Nothing they can do.

Obviously will never install any of there product again.

I like Spectra units but they might suffer the same fate of being obsolete because manufactures keep coming out with the latest greatest every 2 or 3 years.
I know you need a much higher volume unit then my 12VDC Spectra but they make larger AC models.
Village is another that gets fairly good reports.
Good luck.
I think the more basic the water maker the better chances you have in getting replacement parts. The microprocessor controlled units become obsolete before the water maker is through production?

Just bypass the control board and set it up to run manually and use a spring wound timer and a solenoid valve to control the FW flush cycle. You should be able to do that for a lot less than $4000 I would think.

We just bought 2 new Matrix 1200 gal/day units. I made sure they have no digital controls or panels on them other than a standard PPM meter just for the reasons you describe.

If you want I can give you the name and number of my contact at Matrix. Perhaps they can sell you the bits and pieces you'd need to convert it to a manual unit and walk you through how to do it. Can't hurt to talk to them about it.

at this point i m reluctant to downgrade the system since it s not my boat... When WM was installed owner wanted something automatic for when they are on board alone.

Once I got the kit, I decided not to install it myself, just in case, so I used a tech recommended by Beard marine who had done the original install and sold me the parts. Glad I did as after 4 hours of work, the guy couldn't get the salinity probe to work... Replaced the sensor this morning and still no luck, turns out to be the brand new control board... He is coming back tomorrow with a new one.

Good thing I always try not to do any major maintenance right before a trip!
