Seats comming apart on 2400

I have a 2006 2400 just 16 months old and my seats are coming apart at the seam on the top of the seat. They are the two back seats on the lift up hatch. Poor design. I have no idea why they would put a seam there. I saw a Regal 2300 that was probably 4 or 5 years old and the seats looked like they were in great shape. Also noticed there were very few seams on those seats. The vinyl also seemed much softer on his boat. I haven't talked to Regal or my dealer about it yet because I think the interior warranty is only one year. Has anyone else had this problem? If so, how did you handle it?

I have the same problem on my 7 month old Regal 2400 (2007). I reported it to my dealer and they are getting me a new seat. I've noticed it only happened on the seat that people step on to get into the boat. I guess I will be more careful to remove the seat when we have a lot of people boarding, etc.

I don't recall my dealer or my Regal docs stating that the seat must be removed before boarding. It seems like a poor design to have people stepping on seat cushions to enter the boat.

I considered pulling the seat apart from underneath (my mother and I do canvas sewing, etc.) but when my dealer decided to replace I didn't bother.

I'd check with your dealer on the warranty.

Let me know what happens.

My '05 doesn't have the issue yet. Of course I've only had it a week, and the previous owner didn't use it much. The rear of the 2400 strikes me as a mixed blessing. It's nice not to worry about my young 'uns making a dash through a walk-thru transom (and my 5 yr old would do it in a flash!). OTOH, I can see how that cushion could take a beating from people stepping on it all the time. Maybe I'll just take it out with the carpet :-)
 
Thanks for the replies folks. I talked to my dealer and he thought the seats would be covered for three years but he was not sure. I will let him take a look at them when they winterize it.
 
The seats on my 2003 Regal 2400 still look like new. No sign of any problems. They used "French stiching " All stiches are hidden (no exposure to sun light). So far its worked well.
 
Anyone have a problem with the white plastic bases on the 2 bucket seats cracking? I have a 2004 2400 and have had the seat bases replaced 3 times, the last time the seats cracked they shipped back to factory to be repaired and they have cracked again. I was told the seat design was changed in 2005
because of the problems with the bases cracking. Anyone have a fix?

I checked mine , and they are cracked. Did you have to take it to a dealer to verify, or did they send them to you directly?

Also Check the underside of the engine cover (back seat). I have a couple of big cracks that are not visible from the top with the seats removed.

The first2 times the dealer ordered the parts, the last time seats were sent directly to Regal so they could analize the problem and make sure they are repaired. They had the seats all winter and when I recieved them it looked like the exact parts the dealer had installed and they cracked within 1 month of use. I don't know what to do next, as the design is apparantly defective. I also had a engine cover that was cracked but dealer had it repaired locally

I have the same problem.
I found that the plastic melts with acetone. I'm going to remove the plastic piece and use the acetone to "weld" it back together, then I'm going to get pieces of plastic ,cut and heat them to shape. then use the acetone to weld them over the cracked areas. That way I can increase the thickness of the plastic in the stressed areas. If it works, I'll post pix of the "procedure"

I came up with 2 ways to repair the plastic part of the seat. One way was to remove the plastic part, use a bungy cord to keep the cracked parts together, then use bonding agent (acetone) to melt the plastic together.
Then I used thin acrylic sheet from home depot and re-enforced those areas ,using the acetone to bond pieces over the cracked areas. Those areas are now twice as thick.

The 2nd fix . I got a piece of "sea board" 1/2" thick. Cut it in the shape of the plastic piece and bolted that to the seat ,in place of the plastic piece. Used a couple of 2"x 7" pieces to mount the pedistal hardware up off the base.

I'm using the "sea board" fix version, and have the fixed plastic version as a backup.

I have pix of both fixes.

The fix using the "Sea Board" got a good work out going to the Fells Point Festival in Baltimore. So far everything is still rock solid.

Very nice job Bill. Why can't Regal makes something like that from factory, instead of this cheap plastic support ????? :(
 
These are the "glue" fix for the seat.
I fixed it, and put it away as a backup, incase the "REBUILD" didn't last. The bonding agent actualy melts the plastic and fuses it back together.

I mailed pix of the broken seat to Regal customer service last week. Yesterday I got a call from them. They are shipping 2 new (reinforced) plastic pieces to me. They have been great fixing problems, even long after the warrenty expires. Now I'll have 2 NEW plastic parts, 2 REBUILT plastic parts (I glued) and 2 that I made myself. I think my cracked seat problems are over. :)
