I'm considering installing a security system from Flagship Marine. The system uses deck sensors that are epoxied underneath the deck, so you must have access which I do on my Carver 355.
Has anyone had any experience with this company or with deck sensors?

What are deck sensors? I have installed under carpet mats with pressure sensors they worked out well on my parents boat for years.

What exactly are you trying to protect inside the boat? I would rather have somebody steal my $150.00 flat screen tv than break a window or door which would cost a TON more.

Have you ever been robbed it's a horrible feeling of being violated I fully understand wanting to protect my boat even at a greater cost then the replacements. Then again I also sell and install alarm system for a living so it hits close to home for me. I'm in the middle of a camera installation on my boat, I'm just about finished and I think it will be very cool to be able to see my boat from home. It's also just a toy and to be able to say that I can do it.

I have used one of their boat security systems for several years and won't be without it. I have the underfloor sensors, snap sensors, and several other options. We feel well progtected. Several of our dock mates also have a system from Flagship. Flagship -- very helpful, will give you his personal cell phone number to call him on the weekends if you ever have a problem. All of our systems have been trouble free, easy to self install, and reliable. Not one of us has had a break in since the installs. Others on the docks haven't been as lucky.

Deck sensors are small devices that are epoxied beneath the deck area you want to protect. Typically they are installed at locations that would be used to enter the boat. For example, steps leading to the sundeck from the swim platform or on the swim platform itself. Also on the side of the boat where you would typically enter the boat from the dock or a boarding ladder.
After installation the sensors I believe are calibrated so as not to give false warnings.

It seems Flagship Marine suggests deck sensors as the primary means of intrusion detection, but they do sell other forms such as motion detectors and magnetic switches.

The reason I like deck sensors is because they will indicate an attempted intrusion before the intruder gets inside the boat. 370Motoryacht said it well, my cabin door is worth a lot more than anything that can be stolen on the boat. I hope the deck sensors would scare off a intruder before he would try to break open the cabin door.

gamecoc430 you mentioned you have used a Flagship Marine alarm system for years.
Does this include the deck sensors I've described above?

Yes, I used both deck sensors and snap sensors. Deck sensors used exactly as described above -- to keep folks from getting TO my cabin door. Our marina has a turd tug that pumps us out every week at our slip. I had to be careful where I placed the underdeck sensors. Had a couple of dock hands jump overboard when alarm was set off as they tried to pump us out while we were off the boat!

Really impressed with the total alarm system. Never had a problem yet.

I have a Flagship system, but it's not in a Carver. Just curious, why did you post this in the Carver section? Get a lot more exposure in the Ask the captain forum.
