Sedan Bridge vs. Cruiser , 40-50 footer discussion

lark,
also check out the regal 3780/3880/4080 (all the same boat). Beam is only 13' but if i am not mistaken it is not that wide at the waterline and would possibly fit in a 12' slip?? It'd be tight though!

Rommer has one...ask him to field measure how wide his is at the dock height (12" or so above water line).

The dimensions are hard rules and not based on what can fit. My port side neighbor and I actually share about 25' of bulkhead between to fingers. So I could fit a bigger boat in but the rules stop me. So both the Regal 4080 and the Sliverton 33 are out. I spent a long time reading spec's and 12' beam bridges are few and far between, unless I want an older boat or a 28" Bayliner. I'm convinced I need an express or a bigger slip.

Sorry about that miss but I just bought a 2001 4450 for $255k. Boat prices are definitely coming down at this time and you can definitely get a 4450 for considerably less then $400k. Right now there are several out there listed for $299 and as the season is ending here in the Northeast there can be alot of movement on price. You also can look at the Maxum 4600 SCB's which give a great bang for the buck at around $200k but only have 2 staterooms. If you are not interested in cruising fast check out the Sea Ray 420 Aft cabins as they have 3 bedrooms also and have a great family layout. Again it all depends on how fast you want to go and how much space you want!

BillyIII, I don't think V-drive vs St. drive has anything to do with a boat being a sedan bridge vs a conv. I've seen both boats both ways. Why any boat builder would put engines under the cockpit (V-drive ) vs under the salon deck (St drive), is beyond me though.

greg: I agree. IMO it is for interior room despite the adverse effect on balance and ride.

lark - not sure what you consider too old, but my carver voyager is a sedan bridge that is 35 ft (loa) and has an 11'11" beam. they made the boat until 1999 (so the youngest one you can get is 8 years old), then they changed styles. not sure what the specs on the newer ones look like. for a boat this size, it's got tremendous amount of people space on the bridge. i can comfortable fit 7 adults.

ghostjwm, actually I have been checking out the Maxum 4600 SCB on-line. Nice looking boat. The Mrs's father owns a 2003 Sea Ray 42 AC (2 staterooms) and thats a nice boat too.
