We're thinking of fitting an Electro scan to our current boat and have some questions that are proving difficult to find local answers down here in New Zealand. Our boating is in salt water on a 35ft yacht. During summer, the boat is out most weekends, however in winter boat use drops to once per month on average. The typical winter trip involves taking the boat out, checking to see that everything works, and then returning to the marina, whereas summer is for local coastal cruising. It seems that there are a lot of myths, typically anti- Electro scan, and we're trying cut through all the disinformation, as we like the idea of discharging treated effluent rather than storing in a holding tank to dump once you exit the bay (There are virtually no NDZ's down here).
The questions:
1) Is it OK to mount the unit with the long-axis abeam rather than fore-aft. The plan is to mount the unit alongside the toilet running along the aft bulkhead of the head comparment. The unit will be about 12" away from the toilet with the inlet at the same level (or close to). This means on port tack the discharge will probably be above the level of the head outlet and intake and similarily on starboard tack below the level. Do we need a vented loop between head and the electro-scan as per the promo sheet? The existing vented loop would be between the electro-scan and the underwater thru-hull discharge.

2)What sort of regular maintenance would need to be done. From what I can gather we need to flush the unit to make sure there is no "matter" left, and once every year (?) do a proper clean. Is there anything more than this?
