Can anyone out there get the shift cable numbers off the shift cable for me??? I asked the Carver dealer here in my area and he says that the number is on the cable up under the dash in the Bridge. The boat is a 1984 Santa Cruz 26 footer. He didnt know if the cable went from the bridge down to the helm shifter or from the bridge to the engine compartment.??
BUT he did say that the number is on the cable just under the dash on the bridge. Any and all help would be appreciated as my boat is 2000 miles from me at this time.
Thanks in advance.
Bob

What engine/drive do you have?

I'll look to see if it's in our information when I get to work on Monday

I am not sure the engine drive makes any difference as it has been updated to a Mercruiser 350cube 350 Hp with a volvo penta SP 290 stern drive SOOOO I beleive all the cables are still original to the boat.
Which I beleive ( because the boat and manual are on the island) that the original motor?? was a smaller V-8 by about 100 Hp.
THe shifter in the helm works great no problem but the one on the bridge takes to hands and a foot to move it forwards and reverse.
I beleive the shift cable goes from the bridge to the helm to the engine compartment??? Although when shifting from either location I do not think that one shifter moves the other???
What do you think about that..???
If you have one I will buy it.
Thanks Bob

Hi Kenny
I looked up 2 Santa Cruz for sale on Yachtworld a 1983 and a 1985 both have original 260 mercruisers (1000 hrs) soooooo once again I have to assume mine had the same.
If the cables both go direct to the engine compartment than it should be cut and dry???I need I need that one cable. If it goes from the bridge to the helm...then I need that one.
Thanks Bob If you need my cell let me know or send an email

Actually Bob...the Volvo 290 drive is the telltale. Volvo uses cables that route directly from the shift control to the drive whereas Mercruiser uses a mechanical junction inside the bilge to attach the cable to. That mechanical juntion aperates the shift cable that runs to the drive. I'll see if we have any info on Santa Cruz's with Volvo drives.

Kenny I have pictures of the engine/compartment and outdrive if that would be a help???
Send me an email and I can forward the pics.
Thank Bob

send them to my work e-mail...that's where I'll need to view them anyway: kend(at)simamarine.com

Bob,

Looked at our book today...it covers only the 1990 model year. It lists the 2627 with Volvo outdrives as having an 18' cable to the lower helm and a 28' cable to the upper helm. Both attach directly to the outdrive

Kenny I sent pictures via email...hope you got them.

Thanks Kenny,
Done deal... new Carver shift cable found and ordered from the Carver people. Good to know these old parts can still be located.
Thanks again
