Engines are AQ225D's and outdrives are Volvo Penta 280's.
My starboard outdrive gives me trouble when shifting into gear ... very stiff going from forward to reverse and vice-versa.
I have new shift cables and the outdrives have been torn down and resealed. Problem was there before the reseal and hasn't got any better since. I have also replaced the control levers ... no help! I replaced the cable on the starboard side a second time with a shorter cable, since there was a little slack ... made no difference. Throttle is nice and smooth, once she's in gear, so I'm sure the throttle cables are fine.
Problem seems to be much more prevalent when the boat is under power. I really notice it when I'm trying to slip the boat or do low speed manuevers.
Anybody got any idea what's causing it? Idle should be around 650 on these engines, correct? Would higher rpms cause this problem? I think I'm running at around 750 or so.
