I have a 3 year old sport cruiser. It is used in salt water but kept on rack storage. As I tried to launch for the first time this season, I found out that the shifter would not move forward or reverse but would so if put in neutral. I brought it to the dealer who told me that the shfiter cable was binding up right near the shifter. He replaced for about $100.
I wonder what would cause the shifter cable to bind up after only three years. That seems too soon. The dealer said that often the salt will travel up the cable causing the condition. It just seems a little weird to me. What do you think?
