I was out on my Chaparral yesterday and was havig a problem with my shifting. I have a 7.4l MPI w/ bravo 1, I was having trouble with the shifter going into foward. It would rev and then all of the sudden bang and engage into gear. Then an alarm went off and then stopped. My gear oil resivor was low?? Anyways I have always has a hard time shifting into gear but but never experienced these problems. I talked to a merc mechanic today and he prepped me for major damage?? What do you guys think any takers? Do you think I damaged the cone clutch in the upper unit? It is a 2001 boat can that part be replaced or do you have to replace the upper unit? Any feedback would be greatly apperciated. FYI I cannot see any oil leaking from anywhere, the boat is on a trailer so I think I would of noticed oil leaking on my driveway, the bilge is completly spotless no oil??
