How to spruce up power lines (yellow) which are stained by piling treatment, atmosphere etc. What can be used to make them "bristol"?

The problem with Acetone is in the beginning the cords look great but it softens and opens the pores and you will find they get dirty faster. I prefer Spray 9 and then I use soapy water on a rag to neutralize the outer jacket.

ACETONE......and then wax em with Mop n' Glow.
Mine were looking so bad they looked like resurrected trash...... (Yes REALLY....THAT bad)....Acetone and Mop n' Glow....three years ago and all is well.

The covers from Worst Marine will only last about 6 months. Went through two of them and finally saved the zippers and had new one made with Sunbrella. Other problen is that the covers are 2 12 foot sections. From my boat to the power pedistal on my sewall is almost 30 feet. So I actually made up 4 sections to cover most of the 50' cords.

I used Magic Eraser also, then followed up with some 303 protectant.
Looks great.

Check the condition of the terminals, it might be time just to replace the cords.

SuperClean, if SuperClean can't clean it's not coming clean... sounds like a commercial I know but it works.....you do need to wear gloves, put some on a rag and just wipe it down.

Billy Mays here for OxyClean. This stuff will clean anything!

A Brillo pad worded best for me, followed by a coat of 303. Used what was left of the pad to clean the bottom of my Sperry deck shoes.

I thought you died!

Seriously, as far as acetone and the like, I would much rather have dirty cords than damaged or unsafe cords.

And Mop and Glow? For floors, fine. For electrical cables, I don't think so.

I used to use lanolin based hand cleaner on the vinyl grips to my hand tools back in the day. Worked pretty well and kept the grips in good condition.

I think something like Spray 9, rinsed afterwards and then treated with 303 or another brand of protectant is the best and safest solution. Or the product mentioned above specifically designed for cleaning power cords.

The brillo pad didnt leave metal shavings in the cord?

And the metal shavings didn't rust and stain the cord?
