Long story below, short story up here: Does anyone know where all the fuse terminals are in a 2001 Chris Craft 328 Express Cruiser? If there is only the one under the helm behind the glove box, please read on and let me know what else I could look for.

I have a 2001 Chris Craft 328 Express Cruiser. I just exchanged the bilge pump and float switch in my shower sump. I cleaned out the case put identical pump and float switch in (Attwood 750 and Attwood switch). I didn't have wire connectors, so I twisted the wires together and left them exposed temporarily (I know, I should've had all the necessary parts, but my planning was poor that day

).

I tested it out and everything worked flawlessly. We went out on the lake for the day and when we docked back at the marina, the sump didn't work any longer. Today I bought nice connectors and silicone sealant. I crimped the wires together, filled the openings with silicone and started looking for the fuse. I found a fuse terminal under the helm behind the "glove box", but that one only had some of the helm related fuses. I looked in the engine compartment, in the head, in the galley and I can't find another fuse terminal.

Does anyone know if and where there is another fuse "box"?

Thanks!!

On my older Chris Craft’s they were all on a circuit breaker in the electrical panelon the 12volt side. They were labeled shower sump.

Hey I built that boat!!! I was the lead electrician on that line (the whole factory to toot my own horn) before I went into engineering.
Anyway, There are fuses inside the dash, and breakers in the engine room on the starboard side right above the batteries.
If memory serves me correctly, the sump was power off a breaker inside the cabin. I believe it is the head services breaker. It might even be fused behind that panel.

I tried to get that boats harnesses updated the whole time I worked there. I even drew up the plans for a new one, but they kept saying that that boat was going away and they didnt feel it practical to change it. One thing you can do is replace the power leads. THe ones in the harness are undersized. they are 10 gauge and should be at least 6 gauge, 4 preferable.

There is a breaker on the panel labeled Shower Sump. Has that fried? Am I an idiot for assuming there are other fuses someplace? I must've flipped that thing a hundred times this season. Thanks for the smack on my forehead :-)

I actually read the boat's manual today, all 10 pages dedicated to electrical systems and all 8 pages dedicated to plumbing (there were pictures too). I didn't find anything that helped me. I even bought the infamous 12 volt bible - 2nd edition book at West Marine (had a $10 coupon) and am reading that as we speak.

Shadowcruzr, can I be your new best friend????

It's our first boat and we love everything about it. Changing the pump and float switch in the shower sump were a snap, but I didn't expect to fry the switch in the panel, if that's what went wrong.

Thanks for the advice. I went with the Chris Craft because when I was a kid growing up in Detroit, we live within walking distance of the Detroit River. I used to hang out on the banks and admire the boats that went by, and most of them were CCs. I would see the people in them and they were all smiling and happy. I'd always think to myself, "I'm going to have one of those when I grow up". Now I cruise around Lake Saint Clair in my CC with an ear to ear grin.

THANKS again,
Dusan

I can understand that feeling. When I see them old CCs I want to say "they just dont make'm like they used to..."
You have a great boat. I love the way they ride and handle. And a lot of room.

I will look thru my files to see if I can find my old harness drawings.

Thanks Paul, I appreciate all the advice. I'll be at the boat this afternoon taking the electrical switch panel apart. Luckily there is a West Marine and a Boater's World within a couple of miles of our marina where I can buy the switch and / or fuse that's blown.

I'm not very technical, so replacing wiring and harnesses is probably way out of my league, but please do send whatever you find; I'd love to see what might've been updated in the 328. If rewiring is an easy task, I'll probably attempt some of it on a rainy weekend.

We've had the 328 since September 2006, and it has been a pleasure to ride.

GOOD WORK!!

Running the power feed wires from the engine room breakers to the helm and cabin is not difficult, altho you may need an extra set of hands when pushing the wire up from the aft cabin to the helm.

Do you have a good meter to check voltages?

I feel so dumb. I did check the voltage at the connector and it did show ~12v. I took the lid off the shower sump, lifted the float switch manually and the pump kicked on. That's when I noticed that I left the screws that hold down the switch loose enough so the float switch would never trigger the pump. Why I left them a bit loose is beyond me

. Just goes to show you, double check all the simple stuff before going after the major potential causes.

Thanks again for the sanity checks. My next project is going to be to replace my monochrome GPS and add a radar. Paul, what's the best route to take from the radar arch to the helm? I'll pull out my old GPS antenna and tie a pull string onto the old coax that's already at the helm. Hopefully that'll enable me to simply pull everything back to the helm from the arch, but I'm concerned about the size of my radar cable and the connector is ~2" in diameter.

The shower sump is up and running, I learned several life lessons, life is good.

THe best way is down the starboard side of the arch. THen into the engine room above the fuel tank forward thru the firewall. Then go into the aft cabin and pull the head liner panels along the hull side and head bulkheads. You will be able to then see the access up the the bottom of the helm.

Thanks Paul. I sent you a PM, I hope I didn't make a faux pas by not getting permission to do so first.

Hi, I’m trying to help out a neighbor with his 2002 CC Express model 328 electrical issues. Do either of you guys know where I can find a wiring diagram? I realize this is an old thread but thought I’d start here. Thanks!
