Hey guys,
I am selling my Carver due to financial constraints, looking to get into an older and less expensive boat. Saw a couple nice looking 88 to 90 Silverton aft cabins, but concerned about the bow access. Anyone have one or been aboard one and can comment on walking from the aft deck to the bow? We anchor a lot and raft up with other boats, generally are at the bow a lot it seems. The aft deck does not appear to be wider than the flybridge like most aft cabins, making it look kind of like it could be easy to slip and fall off the side deck.
Comments?

Hello,
We have a 86 Mainship 40 aft cabin which is very similar to the silverton 40. We like the side doors for getting in and out much better than the aft exit on the silverton. Also we can drive from inside the cabin. You might want to look at them. Tim

James, I think the Silverton Owners Club web site allows 'wannabe' owners to post questions. Try there since you're not getting much response here.

As aft cabins go the S-ton 402 with or without wing doors has held up well. Walking forward is tight but with good hand rails. Once forward of the windows it is very secure.I had one for 6 or 7 years and was happy with it. When I bought it I put about $15,000 in floors, etc. When done I had a very nice boat. Also, it sold in one week!

I looked at a few Mainships on YW, surprised to see the prices were quite a bit higher than the Silvertons, maybe due to less supply of them. They look pretty nice, although most have an open back deck. We are used to a hardtop and will likely get something with a covered aft deck.

Since you're used to Carvers, I'd be taking a look at 36,38, and 42 aft cabins. Mostly all in the same price range as those silvertons.

Sorry to say, we lost that capability. Too many spam bots were hitting the site, so we had to go back to Plan A: welcoming new paid members, including wannabee non-owners.

There are certainly several members with 40' aft cabin models, though.
