2001 Sea ray sundancer - I was running water through the system and suddenly the sound changed and no more water despite the tank still having water. Disconnected the inlet and outlet- same sound and no pressure bu the motor seems to be running.
So, what can be fixed? Is there a replacable diaphram or something?
ANy help appreciated or an exploded view parts drawing would help too
ThanksDave

My best guess with the limited information you provided is ruptured diagphram or clogged strainer. Might help if you give us the pump brand and model number. Jabsco and Shur-flow are the more popular brands-dunno what SR puts in their boats.

ditto above. If you don't have a strainer you may have picked up something in the pump, which you can probably remove by disassembling the pump. If the diaphragm has failed you'll find that out the same way (disassembly). The pumps are repairable, but I carry a spare pump for a quick replace, then fix the old one at my convenience, and it becomes the spare.

You may just need to clean the diaphram -- that happened to me two years ago. It's usually in a housing "between the in and out hoses" if you know what I mean. Unscrew the cover plate and you'll see. Pretty easy for sure and at least worth trying. A whole new pump is less than $100 if it comes to that.

When you disconnected the inlet to the pump...which is the outlet of the holding tank....did water start flowing from the holding tank?

i doubt it's a cloged strainer since it happened suddenly.

not sure how you expect anyone to get even close to a useful reply since you dont' say what kind of pump you have... if it's one of the belt pumps, check the belt. If it's original, it's likely to be a diaphragm pump, in which case you need to pull the top and check the diaphragm. sometimes, if you dont' have a strainer debris from the tank can get stuck in the valves and cause those symptoms.

Sorry about the lack of info- It is a Shur - flo. 2.8 gp- a diaphram pump with a strainer- which I cleaned. I took it apart and akk was well except for a lot of sticky type goo in the top center diaphram- just under hte pressure adj screw. So I cleaned it and am hoping for the best. I'll try it tomorrow.
Thanks

My guess you have it... though I don't have any idea where the "sticky goo" came from.

You can get replacement diaphragms for those pumps if it comes to that.

Another possibility is that your tank may have accumulated some muck and mire (sticky goo) from old water laying in it, unused. I had that problem a while back with my RV, with a similar type pump. The exit from the tank was plugged up. After poking something into the line, to dislodge it, it pumped fine. Then the tank had to be emptied, flushed out, refilled and treated with a little bleach, to get rid of the gunk inside. Been fine ever since.
