What do you think the future holds for Carver?

I think almost their entire line needs to be revamped going ahead. They have some stale designs and some that are just out there and make you scratch your head.

I'd like to see a revamped 46 MY with an added cockpit to equal maybe 51 with large enough engines to push it at about a 25-28 mph cruise like a 640 HP QSM11 Cummins.

I would also love to see a mid to high 40's Sedan Bridge, not Voyager with a 3 stateroom layout similar to a Sea Ray 52 Sedan or older 48 Sedan.

I think it would be great for a few Trojan express models to come back as well so the only option is not Marquis for an express.

What are your opinions? If they made some of these boats I would be looking at New Carvers again but I find nothing but the Voyagers appealing anymore.

I'd like to see them do a Refit Factory like Hatteras did. Send them your Old Carver and have it "factory" redone to new condition.

Mine still looks very new, but I think it would be a good concept for people who love their boats and are just looking to go newer.

I agree with you 370 Motoryacht. VERY stale line-up right now. Even the newer boats look old already. I personally think they need to "step down" in size back into the low 30's or high 20's. New Montegos, Santegos, and something to legitimatley replace the 28 Mariner/Voyager and 32 Mariner and Aft Cabins would really help thim, IMHO. The dealership I work at was recently abandonned by the new Marquis Yachts after being a dealer for almost 50 years so that the local "insert large dealer chain name here" could sell them. I, however, still love my Carvers and will continue to buy older ones...most likely in the Montego or Santego line.

Same thing happened to the Illinois dealer, I even think that they should break into the small boat market 20' and up to get people into the brand early and move up through the line. There simply just needs to be more choices.

Another big mistake was not making a new version of the 380 Santego, they had that market by the short and curlys forever and now the closest thing is the Mariner.

It might help if they made boats that look like boats.

The whole Genmar approach changed their operating units over time. Carver used to have a complete lineup for 23' to very large 50' plus yachts. Hard to say what the new ownership group will do to them.

Hatteras isn't alone here. Silverton is doing the same thing. Bring the old models in and send them out like new.

taking them in to be refit? I thought that is what we did and what we are doing here

Part of the problem here is, that Irwin Jacobs...Owner of Genmar...is 1/2 owner in J & D Aquisitions. He has said publicly that he is going to let each manufacturer be themselves, but...they're already set in their ways of "make bigger and bigger and we'll sell them all". I agree 370 Motoryacht, they need to be full linelike in the late 1980's thrus mid 1990's...bring in new people. Not everyone can start off with a $300,000 36 footer and fewer and fewer want sedans and aft cabins, so Montego/Trojans would be very popular if done and priced right.

Another point I think they would do well to consider, just like the housing market, lots and lots of us older baby-boomers are downsizing both in homes and boats. I myself stepped down from a 36' to my current 28'. Reasons? Empty nest. Boat a lot by myself. Getting older so single handing a larger boat gets more problematic each year.

I'd love to see them update the Mariner/Voyager 28 models and bring them back.

If they took a step back and looked at how people progressed through the line up over the years they would figure out quickly that they need to start building more options for clients.

I know quite a few people who are on their 4th or 5th Carver and are looking at other brands now including myself who is on my second Carver. It's not that they need to change up their lineup starting now either, they should have been doing this starting in the early 2000's.

Look at how many people progress through the Sea Ray lineup. I hate to say it but as of right now the only attractive option for me in an upgrade is a 2002 and newer 41' and up Diesel Sea Ray.

Or keep your 370 and repower with diesel. :)

My dream boat as of right now...well, there's two and either will work for me: Carver 38 Santego (the wider one built on the 3807 Aft Cabin hull)...repower with 370 to 435 Volvo Diesels, or the 3557 Montego and repower with diesels.
