I have an 85 36 mariner and need to know the btu of the ac units salon and forward units.. Any idea ?

I have a 36 trojan off-shore or sedan/bridge, I have an 18,000 btu unit reverse air, I don't think you can get a single 120 volt that big anymore. It works well as long as I have the cover on the windscreen, the cover is off white material, they kind that you cane see thru, we also have to hang a curtain outside the glass back door in real hot weather.
If I had to replace it I think I'd get a 16,500 and a 8,000 btu, the unit I have is heat exchangers and fan all in one unit, then you run 4 or 6 inch duct to the different areas of the boat. I would duct the 16,500 the same way the 18,000 I have now is and the 8,000 only to the salon. The 18,000 I have now is ducted to the salon, vee bunk and head the dinette is the lowest part of the boat and is in between all of them. If I had the 16.5 and 8 I don't think I'd have to hang the aft outside curtain. I would only run the 8 if the back was in the sun.
Remember with ac too much is not good, humidity has to be removed, 68 degree 70% humidity air is not cool. You need it to run most of the time to remove the humidity.

Thanks.. I am trying to buy a FX-1 digital controller for my existing units ( which are still running well ) They need the btu uto supply the correct box..

Let me know how the installation works out - we have pretty much the same set up and the old rotary knob - on like a blast furnace/freezer - off - would be nice to regulate.

Don't know what the BTU's of our unit is - sorry.

I hear you with the blast furnace... Mine is soooo loud in the salon.. I'm thinking about adding a split off somehow to diffuse the racket as well.

I replaced all of the old analog controls with the FX digital controls on my 42 aft cbn and love the FX controls.

The fan on mine on low is still about 3x the volume I'd prefer - not sure if the digital can somehow correct that too? Will the whole system (including fan) cycle on and off like a/c at home? With the rotary controls the compressor will kick on and off but the fan stays constant

If you leave the a/c on at night you could about hang meat by morning even off full cool.

Good luck with the project!

If you don't mind, can I ask how much the parts cost for an upgrade to electronic controls? Digital sure would be nice......
