I recently bought a different boat and will be adding a small (Tohatsu 8hp 4 stroke) outboard as a kicker motor for trolling.

Looking for input on the Panther T-4 or T-5 Electro-Steer for remote steering of the kicker. How well does it work, is it reliable.

I'd love to get the Garmin TR-1 Gold AP for the kicker, but that's not in the budget at the moment, so I was looking at the Panther as an alternative, for now anyway.

Thanks,

Tim

Tim, I'm not familiar with the remotes you mention but, all the folks I know with a kicker simply leave the kicker stationary and use the main engine for steering.
Is there a reason for putting the remote steering on the kicker? Not any help on your question, just curious.

Hi Bob,

Thanks for the come back.

Because a lot of times when we're trolling it's just Dad and me in the boat, and it would be convenient to be able to adjust course while both of us are at the back of the boat with a pissed off salmon on the line instead of having to run back up to the helm to adjust course. Just getting an E-Z Steer to link the kicker to the main motor (I/O) would be cheaper, but I like the looks of the panther as another option. I was just wondering if anyone here had any first hand experience with them.

Gotcha. i like that Panther too. I think you may have just cost me some $$. :)

Sorry :)

I did end up buying one and the wireless remote for it. Looking forward to installing it and seeing how it works in person.
