So it begins, boating season fires back up....

PFD’s make a difference - and for goodness sake, throw a decent strobe light on or in it. Do you know how hard it is to spot someone in the water when worst case you’re looking for a head from the chin up, best case from the shoulders up? The PFD is a given, but a strobe and retro reflective tape exponentially increase your odds of being sighted. Really want to be found a handheld radio would ice the cake.

Hmmm - this 16-foot Hoby Cat would have been a pure sailboat. I am pretty well versed in gear required for power boats, but a pure sailboat, beyond a PFD, is their a legal requirement for gear (other than common sense?)

While your boating season fires back up mine has been in full swing and will be for about another 3 months until the pest referred to as wake boats return and ruin it for the majority.

It doesn't stop over the winter just more part time boaters show up with the warmer wearher.

Not much problem with wakes in the gulf 😁. More seriously along the coast we have a lot of visitors and they mostly bring sea-doos or their offshore trailer fishing boat. We have plenty of natural waves....

I apologize, I did not realize your boating conditions.

If you have a dock, would u want a wake boat cutting laps back and forth 50' from it for hours?

Where I boat it's on a lake and it never fails these days that as soon as we get secure for the night and break out the grill some azzwipe will come into the bay we are in and run laps for hours with music blaring and tossing everything in our boat to the point we can't even cook happy hour foods.. They don't dare do that in the cove with their camp.

Here is a typical cove we like to frequent:

That's a shame, it seems so many in today's society believe sharing a resource means "they get to do their thing regardless"

I call them the knuckle dragging bling people. I had one arrested 2 years ago just to make sure he paid for the damage he committed. He got a BUI on top of it and cried like a little girl. The park ranger told me they were aware of the issues being created but no staff to patrol a 200 mile lake with 1200 miles of shoreline. Many are trying to get them banned or at least restricted to the main channel of the lake only.

I hate them.

My neighbor would come tearing through my cove, past my dock to his dock laying out a pretty good wake. A couple gentle suggestions failed. So I just got in my boat (a 270 SeaRay with a huge wake) and gave hime a taste. He slows down now. I did the same thing to the A-wipes the next cove over that would tear through. Message received, 5x5. Don't know why demonstrations are required, but they do get the point across.

I am guilty of making a few passes near the offenders camp sites early in the morning with my cruiser off plane to make a point. Not proud of it and no clue if it worked in my case since if lucky, I will never see the a-holes again. Was fun to see there new wake creator bounced up onto the beach though....

I know it does not make me any better than them.......

I admit I might have "waked" a wake boat before. Kind of funny when they yell to watch my wake when not 15min earlier they sent a Tsunami my way!

Wake boats are the bane of my houseboating experience. Taking the wake dead on just washes my front deck all the way to sliding door. From the side, rocks the crap out of everything in the fridge and cupboards. Anything on the counter is heading for the floor. The best way to take them is at 45 degrees. When some a$$hole comes up close parallel to me, I have to cut in right behind their surfer which isn't safe for anybody. Hate the effing things!
