We are thinking of bringing the boat to the south shore for a couple of weeks this season
Dave's sticky post of LI Boating Info is great but you need to be a SS boater to really appreciate what's posted

would like to get some feedback of places to go, thing to do & see If you had just a couple of weeks

Will need town and Marina info as well –
Also – Is any time better than others?

I know there is very skinny water - Our boat has a 3.5 ft draft

Andy i draw same as u ... Come on down....

Watch Hill FI is awesome place.. early in season... mid summer bugs take over...

great food in freeport... Public docks... ( FREE )

I'm was thinking of doing the same thing or at least a long weekend on the south side at some point. :)

We are going to get a taste of it when we hook up with Dave & Walter over July 4th at WHB.
Maybe later in the season we will get into the GSB for a couple of weeks maybe longer
Mel is off of work for the summer and I can work from the boat so we can stay there and it’s a short car ride back to the house if needed

My draft is over 4', as long as you're careful it's fine. You just have to get used to the lower numbers on your depth finder!

I understand you SS guys think 5-6 feet is deep water :D

Yep, that's about right :D Actually since my draft is over 4'6" with a decent fuel and water load I don't consider 5' deep anymore. But 7', now you're talking some nice deep water!

Andy,

Pat wants to do a long weekend in Atlantic City so I was thinking I may try to do a weekend in the GSB and then leave the boat in East Rockaway for the week and go to AC from there.

We're going to Mystic at the end of June but are gong to miss the WHB leg of that trip.

Mystic is great! But we have been there so often and we sometimes use it as a layover from Newport or Martha's - I'm sure we will hook up with you at bayville beach someday
do you guys ever get to Norwalk?

Andy,
We were only there once last year for a day trip. We went to look at an Egg Harbor for sale and spent the day in town and the aquarium.

We go to Milford a few times a season.

By far the cheapest and best place is Watch Hill. You can home base here and take ferry to patchogue to go to town or dinner. You can also take boat to river and there is docking at a few restaurants. Flynns also has docking and gives credit towards meals. That is on fire island. Ocean Beach as well. I guess decide how long and what your into and we can help you. Weekends docking is tough. Watch Hill will take reservations but only for that day, so if you call on a Wedneday and make a reservation, you must show up that evening. The marina alot of us are in is the Anchorage and we may be able to find you some slips there for the night. The slip next to me is always empty, guy who owns it lives on the water and keeps it for the sole purpose of visiting now and then. I am not sure of the beam on it. There are alot of marinas that have transient docking on the island side, on the fire island side, they get pricier but are much nicer for scenary. Sailors Haven is another good cheap one, but limited slips here. My recommendation is to come to Watch Hill and home base there and then you can work fire island and the patchogue river. Maybe even consider a raft up in a cove one night. For boats with big drafts I would not attempt moriches. I would go ocean for fire island inlet and come in. Its not worth trying moriches and as soon as someone posts the rules of when to go through and how, I will add them to LIBI.

Looking forward to having you on the SS. It is really great boating and the water is not as bad as some like to say. Stick to channels, read your charts and you will see plenty of water. Chart it, plot it, and check google earth to see it from above.

My draft is 3'3" you are fine on the south shore with a draft of 3'5".

If I go to the SS for a couple of weeks and you still want to come to Huntington like you did last year, I think you could use my New slip
I will let you know if & when we're doing it

Walter can show you Cherry Grove......... if you ask him nicely.

Hi All: Sorry, started a new job this week and have been exhausted by the time I get home. I now work out in Westhampton Beach, which by the way for you folks who want to travel to South Shore, has a very nice little village marina with about 13 transient spots. Nice little town, a few nice places to eat and many little boutique shops. Is that a gay word, Don? Should I ask Walter or Robski? LOL. Anyway, marina is within short walk of main street in town. Maybe I will take boat out there for a week and stay their while I work there. Anyhow, 68-70 degrees this weekend so "A BOATING WE WILL GO, A BOATING WE WILL GO, HI HO THE MERRIYO, A BOATING WE WILL GO!" Who's going to be out there this weekend?

OJ

OJ...... WB Marina is a nice spot.....Great idea about staying on the boat for the work week....sounds like fun. Good Luck with the new job.....hope it works out for you.

I may be out in the morning for a quick ride ....before goin to work.
