Spark plug brand preference.

I was wondering what is the preferred spark plug brand of you all. I am sure there will be many different opinions, but my manual states I can use NGK, AC, Champion, or Autolite. I believe GVP told me many years ago that NGK were probably the best.

So, how about some opinions?

Never had a problem with AC (which stands for Albert Champion) but they aren't the easiest to find. I believe West Marine is selling NGK and I've used them recently with no bad effects. Not so good with Bosch and Champion.
 
I prefer the AC (GM) plugs myself. The electrodes don't erode like Champions do. Autolite works well, too.
 
never heard anything good about Champion. I've always been a fan of NGK.
 
After breaking off two sparkplugs that had only been in my engines for a couple of years I now have a new policy: Replace the plugs every year to avoid external corrosion. And since I will be buying new plugs every year I will just get the cheapest kind since any of them should last one year.

The AC-MR series plugs are an alloy marine resistor plug, so they don't rust. If you look at the center electrode it is fatter then any other brand plug for a sure, strong, spark. I like them so much, I put them in all my high performance cars as well, if the fitment works.
 
Stick the AC Marine (MR) number or NGK Champions or garbadge. I have personally seen three that the center section
blew out from the acorn. Luckily nothing fell in to the cylinder
 
I use AC-MR in my Mercruiser 4.3, that's the plug that came from the factory in it. Have also had good luck with NGK and Autolite. Generally stay away from Champion. I try to stay with the plug the OEM put in from the factory.
 
My blue GM MPI engine specs AC Iridium plugs so that's what I prefer. No problems with them .
 
I just went to a champion on my jeep, because that was the plug that was recommended for my edelbrock heads. I was a bit surprised that they recommended Champion, and wonder if it is because of the size or something. Seems weird a premium brand recommending a less than premium brand.
 
Use what the OEM recommends. Mercury outboards have spec'd NGK for years. Now suddenly certain engines are calling for Champions, and nothing else works right. Many have tried, many have learned. The OEM wants them to work right.
 
Thanks for the opinions all. I went again with the AC MR43T. gaineso, that's the problem, OEM mentions all 4 brands. Just wanted some input from you all.

I used to be a NGK guy, but switched to AC MR after having three out of 16 NGKs fail after 18 months.
 
Champion plugs, for some reason, have their unique applications... maybe someone who has worked in a plug factory can give us some insider knowledge? My jeeps all used Champion plugs and I have definitely had lawnmowers and outboards that ran much better with Champion plugs... I always put anti-seize on all the plugs I install and so far have not had one stick.. it is a little plastic pouch kimpex might be the name on it?, you squeeze this metal looking like goop out and spread it on the threads... works for about a buck a package... the one plug i cannot find is for my 2 hp yamaha outboard... I believe it is ngk but it has a short bit inside the engine and all the ones I can find are longer... Graeme
