The buoys have been positioned correctly coming out of SPBM. The deep water is still about 150 yds past the last buoy so don't turn right or left at the last one. You will hit mud. Hogan' thanks for the pictures of the boats on Sunday. It was nice.
 
I went out wednesday to fish about 5:00 pm and they were correct.Sunday when I went out to watch the ships I had to keep the first green buoy on my right and the next on my left to stay in the channel.
 
Yup, they were reset earlier this week. Now we can all go about re-dredging the proper channel. Amazing how shallow things seem to be this year. Worse I've ever seen it.
 
Rommer, Are you sure they were moved? I mentioned in another thread that I picked up a crap pot in my prop in April in that channel coming out of the marina. I was charged $350 for a short haul to remove the pot. I asked Dave if the channel was possibly marked incorrectly. He said the bouys were correct I didn't run aground but I was obviously in water only a foot or so deeper than my draft in order for me to pick up something on the bottom.

If they were moved this week, obviously they were not placed correctly and I don't think I should have to pay for the haul out.
 
Definitely moved. The red buoys no longer dog leg to the north. The green buoys appear to be repositioned but till I go out with my GPS on Friday I can't say 100% for sure on those.
 
So then it becomes a responsibility issue. If they are authorized by the USCG to place and maintain those private aids to navigation, are they responsible for damage caused by them being off station?
 
I would think even if the buoys were incorrect they still would not be responsible for the crab pot being there. It could have been dropped or dragged by current anywhere any time. The buoys are only navigation aids, they do not guaranty there is nothing in the channel.
 
True. Certainly don't hold them responsible for the pot. But in order for me to hit the pot, there would have to be less than two feet below the bottom of my hull. If I was in 10 feet of water and there was a pot on the bottom, it would not have been an issue. What's the minimum depth of the channel?
 
Depends on the tide and moon phase. To call it a channel is really a stretch. It's never been dredged, even if it was, it would fill in quickly. It's really just a suggested path out of the bay. Enough people use the suggestion at low tide it will get less shallow one boat at a time for a short period.
 
Yeah - Even at high tide you are not going to see 10ft of water. My guess is 3 ft maybe.
 
That was 2 years ago Jonathan. Things have not gotten any better. For some reason this year is really tough. Don't get me wrong, we like the place but the depths are getting very skinny.

Remember when you got stuck this year with the CC?
 
In between the two outer buoys when they were placed where the deeper water starts I have a waypoint in my GPS. As I said it is 150 yards past the buoys now. I head for the waypoint then head straight in. I did that because my boat goes in early and the buoys aren't out yet. If anybody wants the co-ordinates let me know and I'll post them.
 
BTW - if you don't mind, come on up with the Ocean. We could use a little dredging of the channel!

I just want to see it cleared out and correctly marked before I bring my new 38 in next month.... :--)))))))))
