Question:
I friend of mine just put a deposit on a slip at SPBM for the 2009 season. Dave gave him a slip in the end marina, saying there was 5 foot of water at low tide. With his 2005 38 Silverton Convertible he wants to go and come at will, even at low tide. Am I missing something, is there really 5 Ft. of water at low tide over there? or are they misleading him.
Any input would be helpful.
Thank You

What do you mean by "end marina" Wayne?

Are you talking about the old Willow Cove North end?

Perhaps he is talking about this part of the marina rommer....

Only thing missing is the water!

I doubt he will be able to come and go at low tide without helping dredge the marina at the same time.

I remember, 14 or 15 years ago, the first day I brought my 37' home to Stony Point, one prop was turning on rocks right in the slip.

Im sure someplace there is 5 foot of water, I just dont think its in any channel...

Isn't it 5 foot when you push it all together in a puddle?

Looking at that photo above you can judge the marina depth at that spot.

Look at the piling, you see the high water mark. How much water could be left there, a foot? So That makes it 5-6 foot at high tide. At best???

I was at that one for several years, no way there is 5' at low tide. I had outdrives, and had to put them all the way up to get in and out at low tide.

The problem is when Dave measured the water, the ruler was horizontal not vertical.

A few hours before or after high tide and he should be good to go....lets not start complaining about water again this year, be glad we have marimas and not condos . Then again some of the dock faries might like that better.

You missed the entire point of the thread Jon.

Here you have a newcomer to the marina being told something that is blatantly false. That's not right. We all know the marina and it's limitations and choose it because the good overrides the bad. A newcomer should be given the same opportunity.

Your right about that rommer, but I would doubt that he was told there is 5 ft min. water . Even with the most basic amount of inquiring we all know there are not many deep water marinas around this neck of the woods. If comming and going with deep water is a priorty at all times I still find it hard to believe he would have been told that as much as I believe they told him to try haverstraw instead .
I did not miss the drift, just hoping the thread was not going to the water thing , its part of the fun like it or not and pushing some mud from time to time is part of boating .... super bowl time now.

Pushing some mud from time to time may be a part of boating, but pushing mud every time you come and go from your slip is not my idea of part of the fun.

Interesting way to look at things. So the guy must have been lying then. Why would the potential new customer lie?

FWIW - I spoke directly to the OP by phone and his friend wants to leave his current marina specifically because of low tide issues at his down river marina. Seems strange he would swap one low tide issue for another now doesn't it.

As for pushing mud, most of us try to avoid that at all costs. I'd much rather stay out/or leave later/earlier than suck muck through my engines. But each to his own!

BTW - since the original question was about the water depth I think we didn't have to go very far.

Curious, do you think the next time someone asks about the water there we should talk about the swimming pool instead? Plenty of water in the pool! ;)

actually I don't think the pool is deep enough either (just kidding) but I paid off my slip fee today none the less. Many people have asked why I haven't moved to Haverstraw being I have a 4'4" draft but I like our marina it's home. So if I have to watch the tide clock before I go out or home I will deal with it for now. If it becomes a pain I'll cross that bridge when I have to. Yes Hogan I said Bridge.

never a dull monent on the HRCC... Gotta luv it :)

Perhaps he was talking about 40 years ago..There may have been but if I remember right that marina was not there and the yacht club did not have it then either...

Well I hope I did the right thing :).

We are now officially on "G" dock for this upcoming season. Hope to have a good season and meet allot of you up there. April 1st is coming soon if this snow would get out of here.
