speed boat gets air

Survived,but seriously hurt. One came out of the seat. One lost his helmet. They were lucky.
 
Yes, both survived. One of them is Mike Fiore, President/CEO of "Outer Limits" performance boats. Those are really high-end, quality performance boats made in Bristol, RI. But, they are not made to fly in the air .... only on the water.
 
Saw 2 other videos of this accident but this one is by far "better" 170 miles an hour on the water! not a good idea.
 
Blow overs at that speed are common enough in unlimited hydroplanes that most series require encapsulated cockpits now. Chip hanuaer was almost killed in that type of blow ever. And Chip Muncey did die. A friend retired from that form of racing after breaking his back in one. I equate people that try this kind of stuff to people who go out do these kind of stunts to the guy who buys a Lamborghini and winds it out on the interstate.

That's a shame. He and Reggie Fountain were fierce competitors and were probably the top 2 of their sport. Reggie just might take it a bit easier after this news. He already stopped making boats a few years ago.

Yes - It sure is a hazardous sport. Back in 2001, Jack Carmody had his race boat on display here in Austin at the Carlos and Charlies on Lake Travis.

I can't recall exactly, but it was maybe just weeks later that he was killed in a race off Corpus Christi.
