So when is everyone gettin wet. I hope to be in the slip on May the 5th. Looking forwrd to getting back in the water. Its been a long winter again. Thankfully mild, but long none the less

We're scheduled to launch on the week ending April 28th - pending completion of new bottom paint and topsides waxing/buffing. Hopefully the weather will cooperate.

I ordered a Makita 9227CX3 buffer/polisher from Amazon, which will arrive at my office today. That should make the job a bit easier and the topsides like new again.

Been in since last year but can't wait for everyone to start launching.. It's been a lonely winter on the docks!

Come on in the waters great! :-)

Cheers

Dan.

I wish I was in all year. But with the little cruiser theres no way. If I am ever able to get the Nordic I want then it will probably stay wet.

I checked last year's log. We had the boat on the ship on Lake Winnipesaukee April 8th. Though I selected April 15th in the ice-out contest this year, I'm guessing it will later in the month. It was 9 below this morning and we still have 20+ inches of snow on the ground.

I'm with knomad. It'll be a bit later ice-out this year. But splash date should remain the same. First weekend after May 1st. Our boat insurance only covers us, in water, from May 1 to Nov 1.

My balls are still frozen!

But the ice is breaking up. The river never actually froze solid here all year so I could have moved downriver a half mile or so and hung out with the lobster boats but opted to pull the dock and pull the boats. Mooring ball stayed in so the little boats can go in almost anytime. Crane guy comes back to replace the dock around April Fool's Day. Can't wait...

Plan on being in by April 15th...last year we took delivery of our boat April 10th...did not get out much the next month...rain, cold, wind through most of May, but we were still on the boat every weekend, getting set up, relaxing, whatever...will always try to extend my season as much as possible.

Shooting for somewhere around second week of May. This is my first spring with a new boat and even though I was prepared, I am still amazed at how much there is to do to get ready. And with variable spring weather here in the NE it doesn't leave a lot of time to get ready. But I can't wait.

My new-to-me boat was purchased from a dealer in Maine with a 30-day warranty and a slip for April only, yielding a splash date of April 6th. I get to shake out the systems (especially the heater!!) and outfit the boat for a month before motoring down to Warwick RI. 25 days and counting.

59 degrees, partly sunny, strong smell of salt air and the sound of water slapping against the hull.... God I want to cut the shrink wrap off!!

BUT it is New England and I know better.[:-grumpy]

April 20th for me! Can't wait, hope mother nature cooperates.....

Tortoise, how was your winter in the water at dock ? Did you ice over ? Any damage ? Where did ya get your water ? Love to hear more about your winter on buzzards bay?
Thanks

Hi John

We like to try and keep Tortoise in the water year around,(she's wooden and it keeps her hull swelled and tight) and Onset is our summer mooring also.
Onset Bay never really froze over this year and they have a bubbler system at the ends of the docks so the docks don't ice in.
Haven't had any damage over the years but I have broke up ice if it looked like it was setting in. We have a steel tube frame we put up and then shrinkwrap over so I came work on her through the winter.
They do turn off the water for the winter but leave the power on.

When are you splashing?

Cheers

Dan.

Ice has thawed from the mooring ball, the crane guys are coming in 2 weeks to put the dock back in and the big boat's splashing April 26th. Little boat may go in next weekend and the canoe and kayak have already gotten wet. The last of the ice-boaters (see below) are are quickly disappearing

Riverbed~ glad your balls are thawed out! Whew!!! Came back from Aruba - was going to unwrap this weekend- but the cold,,,,,,,not. Guess it will wait till two weeks from now. Just the normal maintantnce stuff for me - nothing major to replace. Looking forward to some spring fluke fishing in LIS.

Now seeing the wisdom of my insurance company's policy.... This is ridiculous!
