My boat was launched today. I had 2 new Sherwood raw water pumps put in. Engines fired right up but no water flow from port engine. Stud was good. I asked mechanic that did the install if one pump could be in backward. His answer---impossible. Open strainer, good flw in, nothing out. Put intake hose in bucket of water and crank engine. Yep, pushing water into strainer, , not sucking it out.. Hmmm, guess you can put them in backward! Put pump on correct way and plenty of water flow! I guess the $ clock stopped running at that point. All is well now.

The hoses weren't just on the wrong inlet/outlet barbs? That has been posted here before.

On my LH & RH rotation engines, pumos are identical and mounted exactly the same but I believe the in/out hoses are slid on opposite (top or bottom) Sherwood RW pump barbs due to opposite pump impeller rotation and thus flow through them.

I keep most everything on pulleys, pumps , FW & RW hoses and h.ex & coolers well marked for rotation and flow direction to avoid future confusion when I or others are tired and /or "time is of the essence!"

Great troubleshooting, Greg! Glad it isn't delaying your season.

Sherwood P 110 pumps. Symmetrical with inlet, outlet barbs in straight line. Pump was put on upside down. Top was down, so backward flow.. When he pulled impeller to check it, used soap to lubricte. Got suds in strainer when cranked engine. Bingo--backward.
