Last week I picked up my new Yamaha 8 hp high thrust kicker motor, and a Garelick heavy duty mounting bracket. OK, this weekend I went ahead and installed the bracket and mounted the motor. Two problems. 1) The bracket won't release to lower the motor, and 2) the battery cables from the new motor don't reach the battery location in the center console, and the cables to the big motor go directly into the housing with no accessible connectors to tie into. Is it better to cut the cables and clamp the ends, then seal them, or cut the cables and crimp ends onto them and use a terminal block ?? Or is there another, better way ??
