any suggestions?

I know someone must have done this, any suggestions on how they did it would be greatly appreciated! I'm trying to mount a bracket and data input location on my flybridge so I can bring my gps receiver upstairs when I want to pilot it upstairs and then be able to take it off and use it down stairs as necessary too. I have the inside one already wired, and I'd like to be able to run a data cable to connect with the already existing one downstairs. I'm wondering what kind of connection that would look like.

can I just pull back the cover and wrap the raw wires around each other and then cover them up with electrical tape? Or is there a better way of doing that? Or will this not even work? I don't think I need a seperate transducer for this setup, any suggestions?

Thanks!!
