ANY BODY KNOW THE STATUS SS3 STILL NO POWER AT MARINA. DOCKS STILL ARE NOT REPAIRED 8 WEEKS TO GO DOSENT LOOK GOOD.

Same at AYC. Spoke to someone and they plan to start in March and be done by Mid April.
Can't build docks in Ice.
Can't fix electric when it's so cold.
Let's hope it gets there.
All I need is water and a slip at this point!

food for thought:
There incentive like any other marina is to make money, not having a full service marina is not going to get them there. If they could move quicker, I am sure they would. Same is true for any marina devastated by Sandy.
 
I spoke with Mike Winters a few weeks ago. I was interested in a slip there (as the search continues and I cant make up my mind)

He said they will be open in full force with no worries
 
I would do AYC before ss3. Think of all the savings not having them work on your boat. Plus parking behind your boat is a huge plus.
How big is the boat? Guy at end of d dock by me owns his slip but he lost his boat in sandy and I hear he bought a new one the won't fit there. It's a tight slip on the end so he may rent it. Be good for a little boat.
 
Ss3 is investing a ton of money . I would not worry

Boatcrazy can you let me know how much per foot you were quoted by Mike Winters? Are they still at $135 or has the price come down at all?
 
I was quoted just under 2k for my small boat. 17ft. Thought that was a bit pricey
 
I am on A dock and we have parking behind our boats. I believe the price is $135 per foot,, but not sure if the floating docks are less. They are saying they will be open with power and water come spring.
 
$135 a foot!!!! Me thinks I am staying right where I am.

Jeff, your Prestige will look real nice on our dock and we have a blast every weekend. Great group of boats. We laugh all weekend. Cant wait for the season to start. I am losing what little mind I have left on the weekends!

Where is A dock . A few friends are on the canal fron in the main marina. The 135 includes winter too ?

Jeff, I might check it out. I am really torn. I really like my current location and lack of hassles that come with being in a marina. (especially the fuel delivery from Direct Marine saving me time and money). However, it might be fun to have some dock mates AND be closer to our favorite points east of us. I also have to factor in the cost of having my whaler/dinghy in the water at one of these places (currently free of course) unless I could keep it on a trailer and only dump it in when I need it.

One of the things I love about AYC is having dockmates. Last year we had a dock party with a bouncy tent, DJ, and lots of kids. Almost every weekend we head down and spend the weekend, regardless if boat moves or not. I am 5 slips from Walter and we either BBQ or go out to eat and come back and hang on boats and drink. End of night, you crawl in your boat and sleep it off, then go out for breakfast or make on back of boat and then repeat!

The Dinghy thing, well we had dinghy racks, I am not sure if they will be rebuilt or what. But yours is probably too big for that. You could store over at East Shore and pay when you launch or do hi dri. I don't think its the kind of boat you can store on top of your new boat.

I have looked at land and docks and waterfront houses, but to be honest the marina comradarie is one of the things I enjoy. I know people in AYC who live on the water but keep their boat in AYC just for that reason. When it's behind your house, unless you cruise out, there is noone to hang with.

Just my .02, no make it a dime I saved from Obama!
 
OK, I'm sold. I'm coming to hang out at SS3 and AYC more often :)

and, no, the whaler is not going on my transom anytime soon (500 lbs!)...I'm either towing it or Andrew is following me on it.
 
Winter and summer together is $142.50 a foot. They also charge $200 for 30amp electric and $300 for 50 amp. On top of that they charge sales tax on everything which i don't understand at all. Why would you have to pay sales tax on a slip which is land? I know my marina doesn't charge any sales tax and I don't think anchorage does either. For my 35 foot boat the slip would cost close to 6k for winter and summer dockage. That's why I left after being there for 5 yrs. When i started it was 100 a foot then every year they would raise and raise. I was hopeful that with the marina being half empty they would drop the price but that was just wishful thinking on my part.

A perspective from someone who does not own at AYC.

If I lived closer and did not fish, AYC would be on my short list for all of the reasons Dave states. I am not a big fan of SS3 due to cost and their downgrade of the quality of their staff and services in recent years. A friend keeps his boat there and I would not put up with the stuff he has. Perhaps that will be different with the old owners coming back.

We have kept our boats in Glen Cove, Lawrence and now Freeport. In Freeport we are in a great marina (Atlantic Yacht haven) with easy access to Jones inlet, food and stores within walking distance and great dock mates. It is also 20 mins from my home. In Lawrence and Freeport we had/have a great social atmosphere as well as people (both dock mates and marina staff) that look after our boat when we are not around.

Just my .02 or less.

Rob,

A dock is north of the anchorage gas dock with slips on the canal facing the anchorage boats on the canal and also on the inside. We all have parking spots right behind our boats with barbeques and tables. I am in the first inside slip and most of my buddies are on the canal side.

And no, the 135 does not include winter, but I don't winter at SS3.
