Les has now joined the St Lawrence River with the Great Lakes...It has actually been joined since the beginning of time, but we wont tell Les that...
St Lawrence will now share a spot with the Great Lakes on BoaterED...
We sort of share the same waterways now, but we get the water after the Great Lakes are done with it...
For all boaters in the Great Lakes...(Please use your on board heads)...we get the runoff down here...

Ray:
Do you ever go to the sand bay at Leak Island, or Grindstone, or Wolf Island...Very nice spots...
Here is a photo of the sand beach at Wolf Island...One of my favorites, but you can only go there if the wind is not from the West...

We go to a couple places on Grindstone and also a nice sandy cove on Picton.
Are you allowed to go ashore at Wolf? Nice looking beach.

Ray

Yes, you can go ashore at Wolfe Island, but you have to stay off the sand dunes...

So this is a place created where you can come and talk to yourself Wayne? :-D 3 posts in 5 days, all by you. Why does it seem like you are answering questions no one asked?

Why do I have "Not Moderated!!!" next to my name in this post...?

Edit: Any why, on the active topics page does it say 2 replies for this thread instead the 3 that my post would make?

Is this some sort of Twilight Zone forum ran by Wayne?

Shel

We're planning our first trip to the Thousand Islands in late July. We're just begining to research the trip so I'll be coming here in the next few weeks for some tips and information on nice anchorages, marinas, must sees etc.

Although we haven't set an itinerary just yet, I expect we'll be cruising from Kingston to Brockville.

Shel;
Not a twilite zone for me...I was answering a question that Riverfever30 had asked...Not sure on the "Not Moderated" postings, so I sent Les an E-Mail asking for direction on this...I think I have it figured out and fixed now...
Just trying to make this a more active forum and help Boaters that may want to visit the Area...
Also would like to see more boaters come to the Thousand Islands, so I'm hoping this Forum will help...

Not a problem Norm...There are tons of places to see and things to do in the Islands...Kingston to Brockville is a very scenic trip...I will also be on vacation the 3 week in July, so I will be cruising the Islands myself during this time...

Carver, please kept the post coming on anything Thousand Island related. We have traveled up there a few times by boat from here in central new york/Oneida Lake. Not being very familiar with the area we pretty much stick to the shipping channels and usually make Cape Vincent our home while in the TI. We have all the charts and correct cards in the GPS but also hear alot of stories of people destroying their outdrives. How would one find these beaches/anchorages you have mentioned here? Any paper guide books available that might help, we already have Richardsons for that area. Paul.

A great book on the area is put out by Ports...It is an excellent book which goes into great detail about the area... http://www.portsbooks.com/cruising-guides ...This book gives great detail with lots of aerial views...they will tell you where to go, and what to watch out for...
The pics I posted in this thread are of a sand bay on the west end of Wolfe Island...It is called Big Sand Bay...Watch your charts carefully when entering from the points coming on either side of the bay...once you are in the bay you are good...The whole bay is sand and it is a hard packed sand...15 feet from shore you will be in about 4 feet of water...You will have a hard time if the wind is from the West as the bay is exposed to lake Ontario and the wind can blow up pretty well...Not a good idea to anchor there for the night...
You are correct on the stories of people destroying their outdrives, but these are the people that have no charts or refuse to look at them and usually are full steam ahead...

3 years ago the Admiral and myself were coming through the Gananaque area when a distress call came out...Someone was reported that they had hit a rock and were in need of help...The distress boat wasn't far from us so we raced to the area...When we got there we saw a 45 to 50 foot boat sitting on a pile of rocks that were OUT of the water...the radar was still spinning on top of the boat and there were 4 people on the deck sitting down enjoying a cocktail...DUH...why were they out of the channel in the particular area they were in?...We made sure everyone was ok and left the area...They even offered me a drink...i said no thank you...

Ya'll gotta come on up and see Wayne's new TV antenna on his boat!

It's Patent Pending, so don't get any ideas about copying the idea...

FYI...I get 14 High Def Channels with it...

Howd the BBQ turn out Rick...

Carver, I'm impressed with the respect you command on this board.

Norman and OmeOmy, I agree with Carver, been on the River since 1986 and havn't
so much as dinged a prop. If you can read a chart and have GPS you can see and
enjoy some remarkable boating.

Got soaked to the t*tties on the way home. Ran dead nuts into some horizontal rain going down river.

Lots of food left over you should have stuck around.

Next time let me know in advance when you're heading back upriver and I'll snap some pics.

Ray:
Thanks for the compliment...
A man that has spent as much time on the river as you have, can be a great asset in getting this forum up and running by assisting others with requested info on the area...
All help would be appreciated from you, and anyone else that boats in the area...

It would be nice if some of the boaters that Boat in the River, or are planning a trip to the area could all hook-up for a day somewhere...

Rick:
When I see rain clouds and head back up River, you would need a very very fast shutter speed on your camera...When I got back to the Marina, one of the boaters told me how nice my boat looked going up river on plane...I told him I didn't know that as I have never seen it...

OmeOmy...Where on Oneida are you?
I'm from Maple Bay.....Chittenango Creek...

Tanq, good to see you back. Were in Snug Harbor, Sylvan Beach. Been a terrible boating season so far, 20 hours on the motors in two months since we splashed. Either the wind or rain or BOTH have really hurt us, especially on the east end. Been to Brewerton once so far. Like to make our stops in FisherBay Saturdays.

Wayne, picked up the Ports book today at WestMarine, not my favorite place but the price was right on the book from the publisher so West was unable to mark it up 100%!! Would love to do a outing with other BE members if we could put something together. Will be a regular here on the St Lawerence site. Can't learn enough about the area. Paul.

Paul:
What do you think of the Ports book...They go into every detail...

I'm going to do another post and see if we can get a few boaters from the Great Lakes/St. Lawrence Seaway area interested in an outing for a day...

Paul...
At least you made it out...lol.
I've spent the past month and a half plagued by an overheating problem with the Starboard Engine that's actually been going on for about 4 years.
It's been very erratic and does at different times and we couldn't seem to duplicate the condition to MAKE it overheat...just every now and then it would decide to do it. Finally did a compression check and found 7 cylinders at 140-150 and the 8th at 85. Pulled the head and found a crack between the Valve Seats and put a new one on. I won't go into what happened next but I'm now in the process of replacing BOTH Heads on the Port Engine. I should have em Monday and MAYBE get it all back together just about the time half of the boating season is over....Sheesh...been a tough year already. I'm really getting to old and not agile enough to do all the twisting and turning in the Engine Compartment anymore.I should be up and running in about a week or so....maybe we can plan a trip somewhere?...Like maybe Fairport? or wherever?
