Hypothetical that might become reality:
You're looking at a boat that is built and marketed for the "lake" market, meaning that most of the boats they make do not see a marine environment.
What specific standards would you cite when asking the manufacturer about the marine-worthiness of the boat? (Assume the powerplants are FWC, off-the-shelf Mercruisers.)
For example, is there an objective wiring standard that addresses marine corrosion?
I'm aware of (but not familiar with) NMMA and AYBC standards, and if they are a short-cut answer to my question, then which one offers better protection? I've seen NMMA stickers on pontoon boats, so I'm not going to put much weight on that one!
Seems to me that the vulnerable aspects of a "lake" boat, from a corrosion standpoint, are:
1. Wiring.
2. Deck hardware.
3. Window/hatch/sliding door hardware.
