Simple question, I hope. The motor started and ran great the 1st three times out. The fourth time out, the motor started great the first time. It stalled when I threw it in reverse and when I turned the key; nothing...no clicking from the starter solenoid, nothing. I tapped the starter solenoid (old car repair trick) and the starter cranked once but the engine didn't start. I turned the key again; nothing. I tapped the solenoid again and the starter engaged and the motor started. I kept it running for the entire outing. When I brought it home and tapped the solenoid & turned the key; nothing...it won't start ever now. The solenoid did look new; had been replaced before.
I did remove the starter slave solenoid and actually drilled it apart. It was bad inside; the copper "flat wire" between the small yellow-wire contact and the center post appeared to be burned apart; not broken. I attempted to "jump" the solenoid to assure myself that was the part I needed, but the starter still won't crank. I ordered a new solenoid, but I am concerned about the appearence of the inside of the solenoid; like there was a high-voltage situation that may burn the new one. I lack electrical testers. I was wondering if you had any comments on the likelihood there is another problem causing the starter slave solenoid to go bad?
