Before I start throwing grease on every exposed surface, can anyone tell me whats likely to be the trouble with increased steering effort on a Horizon 220; Volvo 5.8Fsi?

The pump is full, belts are tight, no pump noise, and there does seem to be a LITTLE power assist, but its only slightly easier to steer than when the engine is not running.

The Volvo manual says to grease the ram every 60 days (whoops)but there are two rods, (one thats level with the end of the steering cable, and one below that) and Im not sure which to grease.

Theres also a "box" behind the steering wheel that has a plastic tube with a spring in it that I assume needs lubrication, but again, I have no idea.

Seems like the thing to do at this point is find out if the outdrive turns freely, but what is the easiest way to d/c the steering?

Sorry so many questions at once!

Thanks!
