steering wheel slop

I have steering wheel slop in my steering wheel. Steering does not seem stif but their is 1/4 play in the wheel if I move the steeing wheel in this play range the outdrive does not respond. I have herd this can be fixed with an adjustment or that the system may need to be bled. I have a 2001 2655 with merc 5.7 and Bravo III drive. Any ideas?

UPDATE: the steering system i have is Power-Assisted Rack & Pinion
