That business model will function but it usually involves not just using the boats, but working on them! :-)

Well when the boat is away rom home base I'm more likely than not on it. And even when it's at the dock I am more than likely living on it and not at home.

Oh crap! Did I just say that out loud? :-)

The name and address of a documented boat's owner is easily obtained on the Internet:

http://www.st.nmfs.noaa.gov/st1/CoastGuard/VesselByName.html

An AIS signal broadcasts the vessel name and often a photo or description.

Are theives smart enough to put this all together? Probably not, but you never know.

"Not my boat; bosses' boat".

I'm referring to the boat(s) he works on, not his personal boat. Seeing a yacht via AIS isn't the same as seeing a smaller boat as the yacht's owners may still be at home (or they may have private security, etc.). I'm just not comfortable broadcasting my location to the world. Yes, I do sometimes turn my cell phone off so NSA can't even find me! :-)
