Stiff Steering

Hi,

Anybody know a way of lubricating the steering cable on a 215 Express Cruiser? The pump level is fine, and the belt is tight, but the steering has been getting stiffer over the last season.

Andy, I went through that and replaced the cable. Actually cable and helm. The helm itself was still good, and I could still get the cable that matched it, but they've been superceded and I wanted the latest version. Old cable series is "124" and the newer is "134". I can help you tell which is which if needed. There have been threads in Engines/Electrical where guys have cleaned up their cables but you'd probably have to remove the cable to service it then reinstall. I'm glad I replaced ours. Many others operate the boat and they comment how easily and smoothly it steers. Email me for particulars if you like. Your 215 is a 1999 so it may already have the new 134 series parts. Also, I know the 215 got longer in later years than our 1996 model is. That may mean the cable length has changed.
