Storing the 5hp outboard?

I want to leave the dinghy and 5 hp outboard at the marina. Does anyone lay their outboard down in a dock box? It's a 5HP with internal tank. The boat really isn't big enough to store on the boat full time when not in use. Recommendations?
 
Some of our dock neighbors lay their small outboards down in one of their dock boxes. Your owners manual will have instruction about laying it down, especially if it's a 4-stroke.

Make sure you drain/run all the gas out of it. Four strokes can only be laid on one side.
 
as above, four strokes have specific instructions, I have stored my two stroke dink motors in my dock box and rear locker on the swim platform forever.Even with the internal tanks I`ve found if the carb is higher than the tank I haven`t seen any fuel leaking, your results may vary...
 
I have a 3hp Yamaha two stroke with on-board fuel tank, and I store it in my dock box all summer. I close the fuel petcock and run the engine until it runs the carb out of fuel and then lay it on the side; according to my manual, I can only lay it on one side. For what it's worth, I also have a 15hp Johnson that I can store on either side, or even "vertically" laying down. I don't think it matters whether 2 or 4 stroke as far as how you can store it (which side), as much as it does specific design of the motor.
 
4 Strokes have an oil store that can cause major problems if you lay the unit on the wrong side. 2 strokes mix the oil in the gas so no such issues.
