Stray current

Yessir, it really does! CAPT Dave Rifkin USN Retired is a national expert on this topic. You'll find some of his articles through Boat/US. I attended a program he put on for a local boating club and added a section to our CGAux boating classes based on his material. That was several years ago, and it's gratifying to see the topic gaining more general exposure lately.
We've had several incidents with necrotic bacteria infections around the St. Johns River including at least one death. One day I met a lady hobbling with crutches and it turned out she'd picked up an infection maintaining a section of beach she and her husband have "adopted." Said she just wished the doctors'd quit fighting the infection and amputate her foot. Pain was so bad. Based on that, I wanted to add a section on "flesh eating bacteria" and got help from BE's own Gregory S.
We need to BE aware and make others aware of these threats to our wellness and safety. It isn't difficult; we just need to understand.
