Anybody know the results of the striper contest, how many were caught and what size? I didn't enter but I would have been out there except it was too freaking cold and windy. I was told some guys quit early because of the wind and no fish.

I heard that a couple of strippers got caught late that night, after the contest and they are waiting for someone to post thier bail.

When I was at the show Sunday afternoon they pulled a pretty good sized striper from the pool and brought it back to the river. When I went over to look in the pool I didn't see any other fish in there. A very rough guess at the size of the striper as I saw it in the net, with its tail end bent over, would be about 20-22"

Last I heard, 1st was in the area of 27 lbs, but that was mid-day Sunday. There was still time to weigh in. I can say there was not many big ones. We spent 18 hours out there and only landed 5 fish.. Cold front dropped the water temps and really screwed up the fishing...

Cold front?

Seems like winter has returned with a vengeance. I'm expecting to see s*** in the forecast soon!

Heard the same on the 27 lb fish. We got nothing all weekend. At least the drinking was good.

If I remember correctly last year the striper run was good until the middle of May.My older son and grandson came out and we caught over a dozen in a couple of hours down by Croton. Then we had a storm like a few weeks ago and the river got muddy and full of debris. I didn't get any more stripers after that. I think the muddy water is 2/3rds of the reason they aren't biting. I did get one last wednesday. That may be it.

Striper season is just getting started in Raritan Bay/Sandy Hook, water was 53 degrees at the surface yesterday in NY Harbor, a bit too cold.

Hopefully getting out this weekend.
