I recently had to remove some old striping from my 1989 280 Sundancer. I'm sure it was original, but had gotten pretty bad. I got it off with the help of a hair dryer, but does anyone know what to use to remove that darned glue?!

Acetone or GOO B GONE. Test in a small area to make sure it does not hurt your finish.

Hey guys, I found that Gumout Carborator and Choke Cleaner works even better. I used a good polish right after and there was no ill effect to the gelcoat.
Thanks again for your help.

Good to hear you got it off. I was aware of that method however, I am reluctant to recommend the stronger removal techniques. Some people do not use strong chemicals on their boat.

I took mine off as well. Not replacing it. I think it modernizes the look.

3M makes an adhesive remover in an aerosol can. I found it worked better than WD-40 and goo gone removing the old name off of transom.

Are you going to put the striping back on your boat? If so, have you found a source for the striping? I am thinking of doing the same thing as mine has faded in the Florida sun, but I am not sure where to get the striping material.

About 6-7 years ago I had a 1991 280DA that I wanted to re-stripe also. I searched for awhile and couldn't find any replacement stripes.

What I ended up doing was taking a piece of the original stripes to a local sign shop that works in vinyl..... he duplicated the sizes and color and made me up a few rolls. I installed it myself.....it looked great.

I sold the boat to a buddy of mine....and the stripes still looks good.

Never buy Goo B Gone. You can buy Xylene. It is virtually the same.
