I recently rebuilt the 454 merc heads and modified the exhaust system to limit more water reversion problems. The piston heads and cylinder walls looked OK. I guess they were not. Engine runs fine but oil level increases (not water contamination) and I have an excessive amount of crankcase pressure. I suspect 1 maybe 2 cylinders with stuck compression rings allowing blow by. I will do a compression check this weekend to confirm. If it is stuck rings, what are the quick tricks I can try, if any, to avoid having to pull the engine ?
