I have a scary job this weekend and I am looking for any advice anyone my have to offer. The locking nut on my stuffing box is stripped. In order to replace it I will need to disconnect the shaft from the transmission, then remove the coupling from the shaft (1 3/4)and slide the shaft back about 1 foot. I imagine that after that part is done I will have to disasemble the stuffing box to get the locking nut off. Does this sound right? Everything is pretty rusty down there. It should be quite a battle.
