We're planning a week in the upper bay and looking for a little help. We intended to make one stop Fairlee Creek. Our grown kids have met us there in the past and stayed at the hotel. The hotel is booked up on the dates we wanted. My question is in the upper bay is there a similar setting to Jellyfish Joel's - meaning a beach bar,beach the dinghy type of setting.

Not with all those amenities that I'm aware of. You can head to Kent Narrows for a day at Red Eyes but there's no beach. You may be abale to tie up at the bar if there's space and the Holiday Inn Express is just about a half mile away.
 
To hitchhike on MikeeH's suggestion, that's probably your best bet or possibly Chestertown, which is close to Fairlee by car. Kent Island has several marinas and restaurants and our new favorite restaurant, Bridges http://bridgesrestaurant.net/, has very good food, great atmosphere and live music most days.

Thanks for the suggestions. We have been to Red Eyes and that was our next thought. Not familiar with Chestertown. I'll look into it.

We were just talking with friends about anchoring on the north of Hog Island, It's just south of the Narrows bridge on the west side of the channel. Looks like plenty of room and you could dingy over to the Jetty or to Red Eyes. Anybody tried an overnight anchor in there?

Chestertown is a historic town. Quite nice but not a party town. More activity and things to do than Oxford or Georgetown. Lots of good restaurants and shops; you can anchor out and dingy in at the Fish Whistle or the base of High St. Every Saturday morning there is a Farmers' Market in the town square (4 short blocks from the waterfront) with lots of fresh local produce, cheeses, breads, crafts, etc. There's other activities scheduled each weekend.

Hog Island is a good anchorage but is a little ways from Red Eyes and Jetty. it is also a little more difficult approach. Much of the water back there is pretty shallow. It may be better to go in with some local knowledge. I live right there so if you need help let me know.
Marshy Creek which is accross from Hog Island and on the East side of Kent Narrows Just passed Oyster Cove (Large townhouse community on the south side of Kent Narrows) is probably a better choice to anchor out and a little closer to the action.

People also anchor just passed the Jetty and the wells cove marina. Just be careful of the depth. You also have the choice of several marinas that would all be great choices with pools, Lippincott, Mears, Wells Cove, Piney Narrows. If you eat at Bridges restaurant they will let you stay over night at a nominal charge.
I could also get you a spot at Kent Island Marina if you like! Probably 1.50 p/f plus electric and that is right in the channel. let me know.
 
There's Rock Hall to consider as well. I think Haven Harbor just opened their own B&B. Plus there's the motel near Rock Hall Landing.
 
Van, Thanks for the good information. Sounds like we could spend a week just checking out Kent Narrows. I'm thinking the kids can do the pool survey and we'll do the food tasting. Tim
 
Thanks for all the suggestions. We're heading out on 7/29. The itinerary is from north of Philly to Chesapeake City for lunch then to Skipjack on the Sassafras (sp?) for dinner with friends. Head out the next day to Great Oak for the weekend. Then to Kent Narrows then Annapolis. On the way back we hit Great Oak to meet friends for a night. Thanks again.
