Suisun Marina. Has anyone ever been there?

Just south of Navy Point. But running aground wasnt the problem. The mechanic just called me and said a belt fell loose and got caught in the engine. Started to burn and blocked the water intake to cool the engine. When I shut down I ran to the front to drop anchor but by this time we had drifted too far and ran into some mud.

Repairs will probably put me in the hole for 600.00 but the boat will be fixed and I will be able to drive it back..carefully.
 
That's not bad....most boat repairs are closer to $1k unless you do the work yourself! Have a good, safe trip back to home port.

Is it a Volvo Penta, or Merc? Volvo uses belts to power the raw water pump, Mercs are driven by the O/D. Both use belts to spin the water circulation pups...

Its a Merc. Has anyone had their boat repaired by California Marine Sports? What was your experience. It starting to look like the repairs will take a bit longer than expected.
 
Boat has been fixed and serviced. Turns out it was a belt that fell off and knocked out my steering. Belts were replaced, new zincs, oil change and fluids topped off.

WOW. what a difference. It was a smooooth ride back. I was cruising at 23mph at 3100 RPMs. Made it from Suisun Marina to Martinez in about an hour.
 
I'm glad the Suisun company got you up and going.

Hey Phil,

Thanks for the tow. Yep got me up and running and had a smooth ride home. The only downside is this past weekend I went out to the boat, turned the key and she cranked right up but just a few minutes later the engine alarm sounded.

Alarm only sounds for 3 reasons, overheating, low oil pressure or low drive oil. Im perplexed because just last week I had it tuned up, oil changed, all the fluids topped off and all that. The mechanic is closed today but I will call them tomorrow to see if they will check it out.

Will do. California Marine Sports in Suisun, the mechanic that serviced the engine 1 week ago says they have nothing to do with the engine problem Im having now. Im going to have to have a mobile mechanic come take a look at the engine and make an assessment...AGAIN. Engine check and servicing is what I paid for just 7 days ago so here we go again. I'll keep you posted.
 
As you are finding, it is difficult to find a knowledgeable, honest boat mechanic! If/when you find hone, treat him like he is made of gold!!!! Also, never assume everything they tell you is the truth. The more you understand your boat's systems, the more you defense you have against getting ripped off.

Keep asking questions on these forums as you move forward. The advice you get at BE is usually spot on and doesn't cost you!

I think that's the same place I took my boat to get it winterized. They broke off one of the water cooling drain plugs and charged me the extra labor it took to extract it. Never went back and made sure nobody else I knew went there either.

I think that's the same place I took my boat to get it winterized. They broke off one of the water cooling drain plugs and charged me the extra labor it took to extract it. Never went back and made sure nobody else I knew went there either.

Bummer. Fortunately I found the problem. FOrtunately it was minor. The Gear Lub resevoir was almost empty. I filled it up, cranked the engine and no engine alarm..WOOOHOO. I even took the boat out in the Carquinez Strait yesterday on my day off. Love boating.

I would check the other fluids they supposedly topped off as well.

I hope you called them up and ripped them a new one.
 
You also want to keep a close eye on that lube resevoir. If you have a leak, you will want to know sooner than later.
