Hello to all,

The last 2 years I have been dragging my boat, a Grady White 208 (Cuddy) Adventure, back and forth to Venice, FL from Deep Creek Lake, MD. This past fall I kept her on the South River for about 6-7 weeks before she headed south again. I had more fun (& hours) in those 6 weeks than I did all summer at DCL This year I am considering just brining her back to the Chesapeak area and to do more interesting boating on the Bay and rivers of MD & VA. My goal over time is to completely cover the Bay and so anywhere within reasonable reach is fine with me. My drive time to the South River last fall was 3 1/2 hours.

Does anyone have any suggestions on where I might consider a home base for the summer? Where I could store my boat? I could go high and dry or she could stay on the trailer.

Thanks in advance for the help
PAT

Pat,
There are multiple places on the South River that could accomodate your needs. The best way to find out what each facility has is to buy a copy of The Chesapeake Bay Cruising guide. It will not only help you find a place to meet your needs it will also help you when trying to plan trips. It tells you everything from Restaurants, Marina's, fuel, repairs, facility amenities and is a great read. Even gives you walking tours of each town on the bay. I keep one in my boat and one at my home to read when not cruising. They are about $35.00 but well worth it. You may even be able to find a 08' copy and save. I have seen them at West Marine or Boatersworld.

Van,

I will pick up a copy.

I guess what I would like to hear from others crossing this forum is where are their favorites? Where do they like to go? Some local tips etc.

Thanks PAT

Jeesh... so many places!!!
St. Michaels, Annapolis, Baltimore Inner Harbor, Still Pond Creek, the Sassafras, Rock Hall, Herrington Harbor South, Knapps Narrows, Kent Island.... What are you looking for? Whatever it is a boater wants can be found on the Chesapeake Bay.

There is over 5,000 miles of shoreline onthe Chesapeake. Hyatt opened a luxury resort on the Choptank in Cambridge that is to did for. The any tributaries will provide a lifetime of exploration, not to mention the great crabs houses. I belong to the Chesapeake Yacht Club on the West River. You can look them up on the web.
