Hi,
I just got a 1996 Chaparral 1830 sport sst with 36hrs on it. I rebuilt the engine and it runs great, but it is fading on the sides and has lost that nice shine. The interior looks great, but the outside of the hull needs a little help. Is there a good way to make it shine? I was told before to use polishing compound and then wax it. Has anyone tried this? Or is there anything else that I should try?

I would suggest wet sanding it first. Then compound and finish with wax.

I would try 3M Finess it first (with a polisher) on a patch and see how u like it. If that doesn't get it shiny then try 3M Rubbing compound followed by 3M finess it then u can wax. A electric polisher either Dual action polisher or Rotary will do a better job than by hand. My 93 looks like new after the above

Start in a small area with a compound and finish with a couple of coats of wax and see how it looks. If that doesn't work get more drastic with wet sand etc.

I used some polishing compound with an electric buffer and then finished up with some wax. The boat looks great thanks for your help!
