sun killed the finish on my Pickup Camper.

This old thing has been setting in the barn for two years. It sat in a Junk yard for several years before that.
Now I've picked it up and put it on my 4X4 Pickup.
I Googled and found a T-handle, and some Gas shocks for the back door. The local Glass shop is installing a new Lexan Front window.

This is FGlass, the same as a boat.
This Pickup Canopy was a "Peeled Plum" color when it was new. Sorta maroon. Shiney and bright. It's still that way where the sun dont shine!

The Outside, exposed to the sun is Dead, Dull and kinda Rough to the touch.

The question is:
Do I have to repaint this thing?
Can I wax the rough stuff off, and will that restore the Plum color?

Should I wet sand it before I wax it? Lordy I dont want to go through all that!

Will Waxing do any good at all?

OK, I have a Sprayer comeing to me in the mail.
Now I need to know what kind of paint a person would use on a Fiberglass canopy?
Or is there any special paint?

Thud:
Cancel that spray can order. Every guy should have an air compressor for his shop. Next a cheap spray gun, then read up on car refinishing. Next after sanding and filling lay on some primer because it is easy and forgiving if that works then do a color coat. It is really easy to do if you are careful and when it is over you still have the compressor.

OK Bruce.
I have the sprayer coming in the mail, my Compressor is at the ready, my neighbor has a 'Dryer' for my Air Compressor, I have the wetndry paper, water, and a dry (almost) dust free place to work.

What kind of paint and primer?

Use automotive lacquer because it is easiest to work with. Any automotive specialty paint store. Buy and use the primer first because it is easiest.
