Just read a article in the Toronto Star.
New U S budget proposal includes a $5.50 per person charge to Canadians entering the U. S. by air or sea. I wonder if this would mean the Lakes and Seaway. Have you heard anything about this Wayne?

Yea..It's a charge that Canadians are to pay if entering the USA by air or water...Private vehicles are exempt..gee thanks Obuma...So me traveling to the USA by boat as we do 4 or 5 times a month by boat, we are to pay $5:50 for each person each time...We usually go with around 8 other people...It isn't going to happen from this kid, and others I have talked too have the same feeling...He's hurting your tourism..

How come I have not heard about this?

That is really dumb.
When you come over by boat what would you say is the average amount of money you spend when you visit per day?
I know when we go to Canada by boat and stay overnight we spend at least $100.00 per day.
Ray

We visit for re-fueling we will spend around 400 bucks. When just going over for dinner and a few drinks the two of us will go through at least 100 bucks per visit, and we visit at least once per week in the summer.. We are only one couple that do this. There are several others that we travel with from the marina. These small town mom and pop shops actually depend on us Canadians to visit to stay open,.
This stupid move has me just furious. Obuma is now interfering with my enjoyment while visiting with friends in the USA.

I plan to contact Senator Schumer(NY) about this, maybe some Canadians should also.

I'm going to pass that Link around to Fellow boaters Ray. Hopefully, and I'm sure it will travel up the Seaway to all Marinas and business owners on both sides of the Border.

Private vehicles include private boats Wayne, they only want the cruise ships where it is easy to collect a lot in a short time.

Prime Minister Harper has already called out the U.S. on this issue. It wouldn't surprise me to see Obama back down on this one.

Where is Canadian Kenneth Taylor today. Who is he? He was the Canadian ambassador that got our embassy staff out of Iran in (1980 I think). My wife says I never forget - maybe.
This in way of intro to: Canadians are our friends! Why slap a tariff on our #1 oil supplier? What will they do in retaliation??

If "private vehicles are exempt", will this have any impact at all?

Depends if boats are included in the classification of "private vehicles"...I would think that a private boat is a vessel and not a vehicle...I have not seen anything to contradict this...
