Thanks for looking. I've found a surveyor who can also do the engines.

Contact Phil Gaudreau, Allpoints Marine Services. He has done two surveys for me. Ask him for a reference for a diesel guy. He gave me names for Cummins on my current boat. His number is 860-638-7667. Let him know Mike Rocheleau sent you.
Grant Westerson was the surveyor the buyer of my boat used, I thought he did a very good job, thorough and fair. His number is 860-388-8899. Finally Friends of ours have used Johnson Marine Services a number of times and have been pleased, their number is 860-572-8866, Ken and Adrian.

Good luck!

Mike

Thanks! I'll keep those names in mind, but in the meantime I spoke with Al Prisco and at I've decided to use him.
I do appreciate the recommendations though

Using Al is a great choice. I have used him and I was very pleased...Not sure if the broker was as happy since he took a lot of time, but left nothing unchecked..

Thanks guys! Al was quick to return call, was a wealth of info on the phone, and can do the survey on the Caterpillars too. Survey is about 2 weeks away. Keeping my fingers crossed that it all goes well.

Thanks again to those who endorsed Al Prisco. Wow! I am super impressed. He did the survey, and despite the torrential downpour we had to endure for most of the long day after the boat was dropped back in the water, he went through everything with a fine tooth comb. I'm pretty thorough when I look at a boat I'm interested in, but he takes things to the next level, and then some. I learned a lot from watching him.
The two salesmen that I'm dealing with were present and although I don't think they were too happy with a few of the things he pointed out, they seemed to be as impressed as I was.
They had the boat surveyed a few weeks back before taking it in trade, and they told me that Al found things that the previous surveyor missed.
They started out being a little defensive, but by the end of the day the explanations and evidence he pointed out as he went along showed them how reasonable and honest he is and they definitely came around and agreed with everything he found.
Overall, it's a great boat. But there are at least a dozen or so mostly minor things that need to be addressed before I'll consider closing. No one thing is super expensive, but all totaled up it would be more than I am going to overlook.
I'm waiting for his written report before going any further, but I left a list of things that I know need to be done with the salesmen before I left them yesterday and the ball is now in their court.
If they agree to do everything it will save me more than what Al's fee was. If they don't, then the fee was money well spent as I continue my search.

John, your recap would be exactly how I would have described Al's survey of my boat. Even the rain!

Thanks to all for the recommendation and information. I closed on the boat today. It's a 2002 Sea Ray 410 Monaco Edition Sundancer with 3126 Caterpillars. Marine Max is winterizing, shrinkwrapping and storing it until Spring delivery as part of the deal. Can't wait for April to get here:
